Loneliness In The Elderly
Loneliness, for an underappreciated population, is an increasingly growing threat in the UK and one that dramatically impacts the emotional wellbeing of the person experiencing it. A strong precursor to isolation and depression, loneliness can have a profound impact on the health of you or your loved one, both physically and mentally. Experts now understand that this depression can strongly exacerbate the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer’s, making it a key issue to combat in the elderly.
Loneliness affects a huge number of elderly people, who can easily feel abandoned and forgotten, becoming a prisoner in their own home through disabilities or having few to spend time with. However, loneliness affects not just the elderly but people of all ages where care and mutual support are required and not provided, making it one of our top priorities.
